Hey Amanda. I really enjoy using an exercise bike. I’m 50 years old and while I like going to the gym in the summer, I hate going in the winter. There are numerous reasons—I hate getting sweaty and going into the cold, I dislike driving in inclement weather, I don’t like the gyms during cold and flu season because too many people don’t wipe the equipment off. I don’t do much weights anymore as I’ve found exercises to do at home. However, one thing I do miss in the off-season (October-April) is riding a bike. I love recumbent exercise bikes because they’re comfortable and it’s easy to read while I’m on them. My biggest deterrent has been what I thought was the cost. I thought these bikes ran anywhere from $500 and up. The recumbent bike here is in my price range and is just what I need. Truth be told, I wouldn’t mind the one with the workstation, but I think I’d get too distracted. One question about the recumbent bike, how easy is it to assemble? Could someone with basic mechanical skills put it together or do you recommend the expert assembly? I don’t mind paying for it, but money is tight so if I can save the cost, I’d like to.

For some people, assembly of any large piece of exercise equipment may be difficult. I looked for the ME-709 model by Marcy online, and I was pleased to find the user manual for free! Maybe you can take a quick glance at it before deciding to purchase the “expert assembly” add on. Here is the user manual for the recumbent bike. While there are many parts to this item for assembly, it seems that the manual lays it all out nicely. They recommend having at least 2 people assembling the bike.
I also found a video on how to set up the bike. Check it out here. He was using some of his own tools to assemble the bike, so you may need your own wrenches. There seems to be enough support online that you could assemble it yourself. It may not be the easiest to assemble, but if you can follow directions by using the written instructions, diagrams, and the video, you should have success with assembling this bike yourself!
